  • What is a National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC) and how can they help?
National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coaches (NBC-HWC) support clients in activating internal strengths and external resources to make sustainable and healthy lifestyle behavior changes. NBC-HWCs use a client-centered approach wherein clients decide their goals, engage in self-discovery or active learning processes, and self-monitor behaviors to increase accountability, all within the context of an interpersonal relationship with a health coach. Whatever goal the client sets, the health coach ensures that they are supported until the desired outcome is achieved. Our board-certified coaches display an unconditional positive regard for their clients and have trained to the highest standards in the profession which means that they have the skills and knowledge to walk alongside you on your path to your healthiest self.
  • What is the difference between Coaching and Counseling
Coaching centers on setting and achieving specific goals, often within personal or professional development contexts. It's future-oriented and action-driven, aimed at empowering individuals to realize their full potential. Counseling, on the other hand, delves into mental health concerns, past traumas, or emotional challenges. It delves deeper into psychological processes, seeking to heal emotional wounds, enhance self-awareness, and improve overall mental well-being. While coaching may address personal obstacles, it typically doesn't diagnose or treat mental health disorders, which are the primary focus of therapy or counseling. Moreover, coaching tends to be shorter in duration and more structured, contrasting with therapy, which can be longer-term and exploratory. By integrating both coaching and counseling approaches, I can provide comprehensive support across the spectrum of an individual's needs.
  • What is Meet and Greet Session?
Meet and Greet is a free 30-minute session where we get to know each other and see if we're the right fit. First, we look at the challenges and issues that are concerning you. I’ll explain the way that my style of coaching may help you achieve the changes you desire and the different approaches we could adopt. Then a more focused coaching on a topic of your choice. This will help you decide whether coaching is right for you, and also whether I’m the right coach for you.
  • Do you accept insurance?
As of January 1st, 2024, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recognizes CPT codes 0591T - 0593T, adding these Health and Well-Being Coaching CPT® codes to the list of Medicare telehealth services accepted. CMS has added these codes on a temporary basis as is consistent with all Category III codes. At this time, most insurance companies are not covering health coaching, however yours may. My recommendation is to contact your insurance provider and ask if health and wellness coaching is a covered service using CPT CODES 0591T, 0592T, or 0593T.
  • How do I know that coaching is right for me?
If you feel ready to make beneficial changes to your life, then coaching can help you make those changes. Coaching is not a therapy; it’s a way of helping ordinary people do things differently, better, and more effectively. It can help you deal with difficult situations and think more positively about yourself and your abilities. Some people do have negative attitudes about themselves that go deeper than most or have unresolved events from their past. These may require a more therapeutic intervention. Similarly, people who are clinically depressed may not be in the right place to be coached. If you aren’t sure then discussing it in the complementary session can help.
  • What are your certifications?
Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach, National Board For Health & Wellness Coaching (NBC-HWC) : (Pending Exam at the end of 2024) Master Health and Wellness Coach Certificate: (2024) Prepare/Enrich Facilitator: (2022) Gottman Method Couples Therapy: Level 2 (2021), Level 1 (2020) Christian Counseling: Covenant Theological Seminary (2004)
  • Do you guarantee results?
Outcomes are not guaranteed. However, clients often notice differences early in their journey, especially during the foundational session when they define goals and tackle challenges. While I'm dedicated to supporting your success, it's crucial to understand that you're in control of your path. Your willingness to dive deep, your motivation for change, and your level of commitment all influence your progress. Ultimately, the results depend on you.
  • Are the sessions confidential?
All information about the coach/client relationship will remain strictly confidential except in very rare circumstances where decreed by law; i.e. where the court might issue an information request / subpoena for the file or information. If you wish for me as your coach to speak to someone outside our interactions, you need to give me written permission (original letter, fax or email) to do so. Exceptions to confidentiality of course relate to circumstances such as intent to seriously harm someone, child abuse, thoughts of suicide etc. Otherwise, all remaining information is kept strictly confidential. It is also important to note that in some situations, it is important to be aware of the use of technology in that for some clients, there is a risk in using certain media such as the internet, mobile phones and cordless phones. If you use these to communicate with me, then I will assume that it is appropriate to continue to do so in my interactions with you.
  • How long does the process usually take?
The process varies based on individual goals and needs. Some clients achieve their desired outcomes in a few sessions, while others prefer ongoing coaching for a more comprehensive transformation. The duration will be discussed and decided upon during your initial consultation.
  • What is a facilitator?
A facilitator plans, guides and manages a group event to meet its goals. To facilitate effectively, you must be objective and focus on the "group process." That is, the ways that groups work together to perform tasks, make decisions and solve problems.
  • What is the difference between facilitator and counselor or coach?
Facilitation tends to be more directive and active, as the facilitator sets the agenda, controls the pace, and intervenes when necessary. Counseling or coaching tends to be more non-directive and passive, as the provider follows the client's agenda, adapts to their pace, and empowers them to find their own answers.
  • What is the meaning of Duageeso?
The name "Duageeso" holds a special significance, deriving from the zodiac signs of my first two children – "duagee" representing the pig and "so" representing the cow. When they were young, I would affectionately call them "duageeso," and they would eagerly respond, reflecting the bond of love and connection between us.

  • Can I pay for Health Coaching with my HSA or FSA?
Most likely yes! you will need a letter of medical necessity, from your medical provider. Your HSA/FSA provider will likely have a simple form on their website that can be used for this purpose. The letter must include a medical diagnosis that supports the need for services. Your HSA/FSA should be able to answer any questions regarding this process. Once you have this letter from your medical provider, you can pay using your FSA or HSA card, just as you would a credit card. Click here for a sample letter template.
